A pilot service will be provided for customers that want to experiment with or deploy IPv6.
IPv6 will be deployed in the production network as soon as production quality router software with necessary features are available; production addresses will be used. Customers wishing to take part in deploying IPv6 may get IPv6 connectivity by enabling IPv6 in their access or laboratory routers, and a tunnel to one of the UNINETT IPv6 backbone routers.
UNINETT will have an IPv6 backbone testbed based on dedicated STM-1 connections, but over time enable IPv6 on routers in the production network as well. Production addresses will be used in both the production network and the testbed.
Each institution will get a /48 prefix, for large institutions we may
actually reserve a bigger prefix for future use. This as proposed in RFC
2450, "Proposed TLA and NLA Assignment Rules".
