UNINETT and KRIPOS launched a filter to block child pornography on the Internet

In collaboration with Norway's National Criminal Investigation Service (KRIPOS), UNINETT has launched a filter to block child pornography on the Internet. The filter prevents access to web sites that shows sexual abuse of children. UNINETT is responsible for the technical solution, and KRIPOS provide UNINETT with updated lists of web sites that publish such material.

The filter applies to all UNINETT customers that use UNINETT as their service provider for Internet services.

The filter is located centrally at UNINETT, and not on the individual customer's computer. KRIPOS provides UNINETT with lists of web sites containing child pornography, and UNINETT is responsible for the technical operation of the filter. If a UNINETT customer tries to open a web page that appears on the list, a blocking site containing information about the filter will appear, as well as a link to KRIPOS. The blocking site is located on a web server at UNINETT in Trondheim. So far, KRIPOS has registered several hundred sites containing illegal child pornography.

Security for UNINETT's Internet customers

For several years, UNINETT has supported Redd Barna (Save the Children Norway) in its efforts to combat abuse of children, and now we are taking a step further in collaboration with KRIPOS to fight child pornography. This is a natural strengthening and continuation of our efforts to make Internet use safer and simultaneously fight child abuse.
