National grid coordination
The development within networking, middleware, supercomputing, and data storage enables a closer collaboration between different resources. Within several scientific areas this becomes more and more crucial in order to advance research. Research collaboration is about to be realized by means of grid technology, especially within global ICT development.
The main goal for grid technology is to provide access to compute capacity, instruments, and data storage. Other important goals are to enable access to competence and making international cooperation in virtual organizations easier and more efficient.
Network researchers worldwide are working to realize solutions based on grid technology. UNINETT Sigma is appointed Norwegian grid coordinator towards Nordic as well as European grid work. As part of this UNINETT will establish an internal cluster to gain experience on operating a node in a grid and to find solutions for optimalization between node and network.
